The Future of Palestine Ayah Ba'baa, Tulkarem
Stifling atmosphere... Unbearable heat, with all the folks sitting on the bus heading for Abu-Dis to attend my brother's graduation ceremony. We have about twenty cars waiting at the checkpoint to allow us pass. Suddenly and without warning, we found the Israeli soldiers deployed between the cars informing the people that their leadership had informed them to remove the barrier. They shook hands with us to assert that we are all brothers in humanity.
This news has thrilled our hearts and we have become optimistic!
We arrive at the university and find the Palestinian flags have been raised, fluttering high, echoing the voice of freedom.
The radio announced that according to the agreements, they are going to continue to release all prisoners. Prison is a place those who violate the law, not for patriotic defenders of land.
Days passed, weeks, months, and years. We begin to feel pleasure mixed with freedom and just peace.
We become a united country without any impediments between its parts. The people collaborate to support their legitimate government and their new state. There are no more strikes or protests, but a genuine desire to work hard to build the state – to build factories, houses, schools, hospitals, and universities.
The joy has spread in their hearts, reflecting on their performance and conduct thus, all comply with the law. We inhale the teachings of Islam, which have become a model applicable to all our work. Our religion, Islam, is a religion which calls us to renounce violence and demonstrate good morals and virtues.
Even nature is now filled with flowers to share our joy. The green wheat fields look like green carpets extended as far as sight can go, with ears of wheat dancing with the gentle breeze, laden with heavy fragrances of orange and lemon blossoms.
Each plays his role in this beloved country including students, teachers, workers, farmers, fathers, and mother.
The most beautiful scenery is that of people meeting in the Al-Aqsa Mosque to pray to God, and Thank Him. The mosque inhales the fragrance of freedom, and become more glorious and beautiful with the presence of its righteous and loyal congregations. What increases our joy is the great interest and dedication of Muslims from all over the world to Al-Aqsa as their first Qiblah, as it used to be before.
In the midst of this brilliant beauty, and this pleasure whose high waves have drowned people in its sea, a hand shocks me and I wake up to find that we are still waiting to cross the barrier.
Thank God, we have only two cars before us to cross.
